Champion Real Estate Group (CREG) is an award-winning real estate development company specializing in prime urban-infill projects throughout Southern California. Founded in 1987 by Robert Champion, the firm has established the "Champion" tradition of excellence by developing some of the most creative, elegant and profitable retailand mixed-use projects in the region.
In 2006, CREG's Urban Icon division will complete the restoration of two historic office buildings in downtown San Diego, the Samuel Fox building and the Colonel Fletcher building. Located at 6th and Broadway, Fletcher and Fox will include 42 luxury live-work lofts. Champion expects to lease Fletcher to a fine dining restaurant, and Fox to a variety of street level retailers and restaurants. The team will also start construction on two new projects: The Collection At Downtown Burbank and the Milan. The $80 million Burbank Collection® will include 40,000 square feet of urban retail space and restaurants, 118 luxury condominiums and lofts and a 720-stall public parking garage. The Milan is a mixed use project located in downtown Pasadena, featuring a fine dining restaurant and 55 luxury, European inspired lofts above.
In 2004, CREG completed the first phase of Gaslamp City Square, a $150 million mixed-use project that occupies an entire city block in the heart of downtown San Diego's historic Gaslamp Quarter. The project consists of 65,000 square feet of retail, 223 luxury condos and apartments and a 580-stall parking garage. Second phase is scheduled to be completed in 2006.
By the end of 2003, CREG completed the $55 million Pasadena Collection, the 2004 recipient of the Gold Nugget as the best mixed-use project in the Western United States. The Pasadena Collection includes 20,000 square feet of street-front retail and restaurants, 38 New York-style lofts, 72 luxury condominiums and a 350-stall public parking garage.
In 1997, CREG developed the $50 million One Westside Shopping Center - the first “Vertical Power Center” in Los Angeles. In 1998, One Westside received the ICSC Maxi Award as one of the best-designed shopping centers in the world. In 1999, CREG completed the $31 million Brentwood Place Shopping Center, a “Vertical Neighborhood Center” located in the exclusive Brentwood community of West Los Angeles.
In 1996, CREG completed a new two-story Ross “Dress For Less” store on South Lake Avenue in Pasadena and a second Orchard Supply Hardware store in Thousand Oaks.
In 1995, CREG developed the first two-story Orchard Supply Hardware Store located in Glendale.
From 1992 to 1995, CREG was hired by various national lenders (including Chase Manhattan Bank) to reposition and sell major shopping centers, including The Terraces Community Shopping Center in Palos Verdes, the Hermosa Pavilions Entertainment Center in Manhattan Beach and Mountaingate Plaza in Simi Valley.
Between 1987 and 1992, CREG developed thirty shopping centers throughout Southern California in partnership with Long Beach Bank,including Temple City Square and Atlantic Square, which won the NAHRO award as one of the best public-private ventures in 1993.
